Well with Halloween just around the corner (OCT 2015) we decided it might be wise to find a pumpkin. So we had a scout around for a likely place to select the ‘Perfect’ Pumpkin.

Well, The Whole Hog at Howe Bridge Farm seemed like a good start. They produce approximately 20,000 pumpkins over the season!
As you can see from our pictures theres a pretty good chance you’ll be able to find exactly the right kind of Pumpkin to suit your spooky needs!

The Pumpkins are planted in June by hand. And then picked in October, also by hand! That I would imagine takes many hands and a fair amount of effort!

As we walked around the range of shapes, sizes and colours were staggering as was the sheer volume of the Vegetables… Yes they are a Vegetable and not a fruit. A question I had been wondering about on and off.

Whilst we were going round in a hunt for the ‘Perfect’ Pumpkin we also posed the question about carving the Pumpkin and the best ways to do it.

It was then that we were introduced to the work of Pumpkin Dave and his company Pump’kd! The Whole Hog have supplied him with pumpkins for his amazing designs featured on ‘The One Show’, ‘This Morning’ and ‘Strictly’! As well as taking annual commissions from The York Maze and Waitrose amongst others! Check out some of his designs here!
