It’s early Christmas for Apple fans as they announce the iPhone 7 along with other exciting updates.

Apple have unveiled a host of new product updates during their Keynote. We’re going to take a look at the major updates.

You can watch our Facebook Live review here or scroll down to read about the new features:

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

As expected, Apple announced their two new versions of their flagship iPhones. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are “the greatest iPhones ever made”. The words echoed across the stage multiple times at the Keynote and we’re inclined to agree.

Design

iPhone 7 keeps the size of its predecessor at 4.7 inches and the 7 Plus at 5.5 inches.

New jet black and black colours announced alongside the previous gold, silver, and rose gold colours that we’re used to.

Home button

The home button has become more responsive with touch sensitivity. It allows you to create new quick actions, access notifications and messages quicker.

Water and Dust Resistant

The new handsets are both water and dust resistant. This is a feature that iPhone users have been asking for over and over again. We’re glad it’s finally here!

Camera

The iPhone 7 camera has been updated to include 12mp and an optical stabiliser, previously only available in the 6 and 6s Plus. The biggest update for the iPhone 7 camera is the flash. Now with 4 LEDs it provides more light, alongside a higher speed sensor and flicker sensor. The flicker sensor detects the speed of artificial light and mimics that speed to improve the quality of your shot.

The iPhone camera comes with a wide colour lens, allowing you to capture images in a wider range of colours than ever before.

Live photos has continued on the iPhone 7, but it now allows editing after taking the photo. You will be able to edit live photos within apps.

The front facing camera (or selfie camera) has been given an update too. This has increased from a 5mp camera to 7mp HD.

The biggest update comes to the iPhone 7 Plus. The Plus comes with two 12mp cameras. One is the regular camera. The second is a lens specifically for 2x optical zoom. This second lens improves the quality of zoomed photos to an incredible degree. On your iPhone 7 Plus, you will be able to zoom up to 10x with greater quality.

As if that wasn’t enough, Apple has gone to the next level with the iPhone 7 camera to provide shallow depth perception. This means that the foreground will be super sharp and clear, but the background will be given a blur. This happens in real time as you take the photo, so you can see a preview before you take it.

Live previews for shallow depth perception photos aren’t even available on DSLR and top of the range cameras, proving that Apple is serious about it’s iPhone camera. This feature – called portraits – will be available in a free update later this year.

Display

The display has been given its usual yearly update – 25% brighter and better colour (wide colour screen) – as well as maintaining the 3D touch across both devices.

Speakers

For the first time ever, the iPhone has stereo speakers. Keeping one speaker on the bottom and adding an extra speaker on the top, it promises to improve gaming experiences, as well as video consumption.

Headphones

The biggest rumour going around about the new iPhone has been confirmed. Apple has ditched the standard headphone port for it’s lightning port. But, fear not. Every single iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will ship with a regular headphone jack to lightning adapter for free, as well as a pair of headphones with the new lightning cable.

Ear Pods

Apple announced another new product alongside the regular headphones – Ear Pods. Wireless headphones then seamlessly connect to any Apple device over Bluetooth at the tap of a button.

They come in a wireless charging box for safe keeping and when you open the box, it automatically offers to sync with your Apple device. They can be used as a pair or individually and each have a battery life of approximately 5 hours.

Both have a microphone built it then uses technology that feels the vibrations of your voice to pick up what you’re saying. It also blocks out background noise, so you can make phone calls or talk to Siri without interruption. The Air Pods aren’t cheap. They’ll be coming in late October for around $159 (UK price to be announced soon).

Performance

As usual, the new iPhones have been upgraded on the inside to increase their speed. Now onto the A10 Fusion chip, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are 120x faster than the original iPhone. The updated graphics chip has become more efficient and is now 240x faster than the original iPhone.

The improved processor has become so powerful that Adobe Lightroom has been able to put 90% of its features into its iPhone app.
