Masquerada is a 2.5D isometric RPG currently in development by Witching Hour Studios in Singapore. This turn-based strategy game is set in a Venetian inspired, fantasy world where rare masks hold the key to all magical activity. We spoke to Co-founder and executive producer at Witching Hour, Brian about this intriguing game.
Taking this Venetian aesthetic and applying an artistic stylisation of French comic-books as well as games such as Bastion.
The storyline to Masquerada: Songs & Shadows, is centred around an investigation into a high-profile kidnaping. The investigation is undertaken by the lead character ‘Inspettore Cicero Gavar’ He has returned from exile to solve the kidnapping. However during the course of his investigations he uncovers a much more sequence of sinister events!
Brian tells us that the story-line of Masquerada is intended to last approximately 15 hours of gameplay. As well as citing gaming influences such as Dragon Age and Baldours Gate we were told an awesome little fact that a main influence for the game came from a D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) campaign which Creative director and co-founder, Ian used to run.
The brilliant voice acting on this came comes from some quality performers such as, Jennifer Hill and Mathew Mercer. Both with pedigree in games such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age!
Masquerada: Songs & Shadows is intended for release by Ysbryd Games on Steam in April 2016. Then hopefully ported to consoles (XBOX1 & PS4) shortly afterward.
When I was reading through Witching Hour Studios website, it really brought home how much this team of developers care about their output and their gaming community. You can bet your bottom-dollar that Masquerada will be refined to being exactly the game they wanted to put out. Because short of that quality just wouldn’t be good enough for them!
