Black and White Bushido is a local multiplayer stealth, brawling game. There are three gameplay options available. Training, Capture the Flag and Team Death Match. The game was released on the 2nd October 2015 by Endemol Shine on Greenman Gaming with help from Ground Shatter. Clubit Gaming’s Charlotte caught up with Ben and Howard for a chat about B&W Bushido at this years (2015) EGX!
The chaps at B&W Bushido highlight that the concept of the game was to deliver
something that the player could pick up and learn relatively easily. However, in time would find further engagement by learning some of the finer points to winning in both Capture the Flag and, Team Death Match.
The player chooses from two teams, ‘Light’ or ‘Shadow’. When battle commences the arena in which the players fight has an active black and white back-drop. This ingenious gameplay feature allows players to ‘hide in plain sight’ from their opponent. Therefore, a player is able to execute stealth attacks upon their opponent!
There are a few items in the game to further spice up the melee, such as Caltrops, shurikens and smoke bombs!
The fantastic aesthetic of Black and White Bushido works best for me in the ‘Capture The Flag’ game. This is primarily because of the way the Light and Dark vistas actively change to incrementally dominate the screen when a player captures the flag. For exaple, you are a ‘Shadow’ player and you capture the flag. The screen will then have more black on. Therefore, you and your team will gain a further stealth advantage.
As the chaps told us when we spoke to them. B&W Bushido is a really simple concept. However, we think they’ve turned out a fantastically playable game whilst innovatively twisting a tried and trusted gameplay dynamic!
