As of Friday 25th September 2015 9pm. BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing will be back on our screens. As-per-usual we are set to see fifteen celebrities, paired up with professional dance partners all aiming to become Strictly Come Dancing Champions 2015.
Each week, the dance couples will perform either a ‘Ballroom’ or ‘Latin American’ dance to be judged and scored by judges; Craig Revel-Horwood, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell.
The Strictly Come Dancing scoring system combines both the judges and viewers submitted votes. In the event of a tie, the viewers’ votes take precedence over the judges’ scoring.
We interviewed professional dancers, Aliona Vilani and Kristina Rihanoff at the London Toy Fair earlier this year! (2015)
Aliona first apperared on the show in 2009 dancing with Rav Wilding but exited in week 3. In 2010 her fortunes were much improved when she reached the final with Matt Baker finishing 2nd. In 2011 Aliona achieved her best result in the competition when she won with Harry Judd. Conversely, the following year in 2012 she had to exit early succumbing to a hairline fracture. Fortunes in the next two years were not much better when she left in Week 2 in 2013 and first to leave in 2014. Surely due for an improved result this year?
At 5 years old Aliona was enrolled into the Arts Gymnasium for classical ballet & performing Arts. In 1997 she was invited to join the Kaiser Dance Academy in Brooklyn, NY. Then in 2001 she was selected by the National Dance Congress to be part of the US team in Ballroom. Aliona won the ‘Amateur Ballroom Category’ in the US.
Kristina joined the strictly series in 2008, partnered with John Sergent and got through to week 9. In 2009 she danced with Joe Calzaghe through to week 5. Unfortunately she was the fist to leave when partnered with Goldie in 2010. However in 2011 she reached the final, finishing 3rd with Jason Donovan. In 2012 she danced with actor Colin Salmon and was finished on week 5. Another week 9 exit was achieved in 2013 when dancing with Ben Cohen. Last year (2014) she managed to make her second appearance in the final, finishing 2nd with singer Simon Webbe.
Kristina entered her 1st dance competition an 7 years old. She continued with her competition dancing, becoming a renowned dance champion in Russia. In 2004 she was invited to compete in the World Dance Championships in Blackpool placing 2nd in the ‘Theatre Style’ category. She then went on to win the South African championships in Latin Dance and the finalist in the 2007 British open in Blackpool ‘Latin Dance division’.
