Leeds newest entertainment attraction The First Direct Leeds Arena officially opens tonight. A new concert venue for Leeds has been a long time coming and from today onwards Yorkshire fans will be able to watch their favourite pop and rock bands along with comedy acts and other major live entertainment shows.
Sir Elton John will tonight officially open and launch the arena by performing in concert with his band in front of 13,500 fans in the unique fan shaped concert arena. Sir Elton John has also recently won The Brits Icon Award and has also had major surgery for appendicitis.
The new concert and events venue has taken over 2 years to build and cost over £60 million.
Although tonight is the official opening of the arena, Bruce Springsteen played to a full audience back in July. The Boss test drove the venue and considering he is used to playing outdoor major arenas he was said to be delighted with the room and the acoustics.
